WebMay 27, 2024 · To check for short to ground, connect one terminal lead to one clutch coil terminal and the other lead to a metal contact point on the compressor. Switch the lead to the other terminal and repeat. You should NOT see continuity during this test. If you do, the clutch coil has shorted to ground. If you find a short, replace the clutch coil. WebAug 27, 2024 · 740 Posts. #3 · Aug 20, 2024. Disconnect the electrical connector from the clutch and use an ohm meter to test each terminal to a good ground ( clutch body). If it blows fuses, sounds like a dead short. Either the windings in the clutch are shorted or there is a chaffed wire from the switch to the clutch. Good luck.
