Focal loss class imbalance
WebOct 6, 2024 · The Focal loss (hereafter FL) was introduced by Tsung-Yi Lin et al., in their 2024 paper “Focal Loss for Dense Object Detection”[1]. It is designed to address scenarios with extreme imbalanced classes, such as one-stage object detection where the imbalance between foreground and background classes can be, for example, 1:1000. WebJun 3, 2024 · The loss value is much higher for a sample which is misclassified by the classifier as compared to the loss value corresponding to a well-classified example. One of the best use-cases of focal loss is its usage in object detection where the imbalance between the background class and other classes is extremely high.

We propose to address this class imbalance by reshaping the standard cross entropy loss such that it down-weights the loss assigned to well-classified examples. 同样是出于容易样本过多 ...
WebApr 26, 2024 · Focal Loss naturally solved the problem of class imbalance because examples from the majority class are usually easy to predict while those from the minority class are hard due to a lack of data or examples from the majority class dominating the loss and gradient process. Because of this resemblance, the Focal Loss may be able to … WebOct 29, 2024 · We discover that the extreme foreground-background class imbalance encountered during training of dense detectors is the central cause.
